Float collar float shoe

Float collar and float shoe is a kind of downhole cementing tool which is widely used for Oil and gas drilling cementing operation. It is just like a kind of check valve, the cementing drilling fluid and slurry can only pumped from top end to bottom end.

Float collars and float shoes are usually used together connect with one casing string, there are some casing pipe between float collar and float shoe. The float shoe is always at the downmost of the casing.

Typically, float collar a component installed near the bottom of the casing string on which cement plugs land during the primary cementing operation. It typically consists of a short length of casing fitted with a check valve. This device may be a flapper-valve type, a spring-loaded ball valve or other type. The check-valve assembly fixed within the float collar prevents flowback of the cement slurry when pumping is stopped. Without a float collar, the cement slurry placed in the annulus could U-tube, or reverse flow back into the casing. The greater density of cement slurries than the displacement mud inside the casing causes the U-tube effect.

Float shoe is a rounded profile component attached to the downhole end of a casing string. An integral check valve in the float shoe prevents reverse flow, or U-tubing, of cement slurry from the annulus into the casing or flow of wellbore fluids into the casing string as it is run. The float shoe also guides the casing toward the center of the hole to minimize hitting rock ledges or washouts as the casing is run into the wellbore. The float shoe reduces hook weight. With controlled or partial fill-up as the string is run, the casing string can be floated into position, avoiding the need for the rig to carry the entire weight of the casing string. The outer portions of the float shoe are made of steel and generally match the casing size and threads, although not necessarily the casing grade. The inside (including the taper) is usually made of cement or thermoplastic, since this material must be drilled out if the well is to be deepened beyond the casing point.

Float collar and float shoe are all belong to floating equipment for drilling cementing application. Floating equipment is generally used in the lower section of the well to help reduce strain on the derrick while guiding casing past ledges and slough zones in the hole provide a landing point for bottom and top cementing plugs (pumped ahead of and behind the slurry as part of cementing operations) and also can provide a backpressure valve to prevent cement from flowing back into the inner diameter of the casing after the cement has turned the corner into the annulus and the top plug has been bumped.

Usually the float shoe contains a backpressure valve that prevents fluids from entering the casing while the pipe is lowered into the hole and prevents cement from flowing back into the casing after placement, while enabling circulation down through the casing. Float collars are placed one to three joints above the guide shoe or float shoe. They provide a seat for the cement plugs, the bottom plug pumped ahead of the cement and the top plug behind the full volume of slurry. Once seated, the top plug shuts off fluid flow and prevents over-displacement of the cement. The space between the float shoe and the float collar provides a containment area to entrap the likely-contaminated fluids from the wiping action of the top cementing plug, securing the contaminated fluid away from the shoe where a strong cement bond is of primary importance. Float collars include a backpressure valve and serve basically the same function as the float shoe.

Our CCSC technology cement float collar and float shoe are designed as per API standards and improved from halliburton and schlumberger.

We CCSC technology are always working on total solution for float collars and float shoes,

Model C  Non-rotating float collar float shoe

Features:

Sized range from 4-1/2" to 20"

High-strength metal can withstand excessive hydrostatic pressures exerted

by cement columns to prevent formation damage and thereby significantly

reduce costs and nonproductive time.

Flexible, overlapping metal fins aid the basket in forming a bridge in the

annulus to prevent cement from falling.

Aluminium alloy material used for working pressure 35Mpa,pipe size ≤5 inch

Cement material used for working pressure 35Mpa,pipe size ≥5.5 inch

Non-rotating style is better than conventional style

stub in style is can be used for  pipe size more than 13-3/8 Inch

stub in style no need any cement plug to displace mud during operation
